September 14, 2011

Zoellick gives a speech at George Washington University in which he sets out the need for a world 'beyond aid': "a global system that integrates developed and developing countries, innovation, private investment, and the 50 percent of the world's population too often kept behind -- women". I have compiled a database of NGOs from the 2007 Council of NGOs directory. If this would be useful to anyone it is available at www.vanessaliston.com/docs.

It is done in MS Access and queries can be run on it using the SQL wizard - very easy. So if you are looking for a list of NGOs working in Education AND Health in Baringo district (for example) you might find this useful.

Maynooth group

A group to connect scholars / practitioners in Maynooth

I can't say this is a 'mission statement', as such, but my initial sense of things is that there is scope to use this site as a way to connect scholars / practitioners working in Maynooth.

In the short-term, perhaps we could use this site to discuss the possibiity of coordinating on-campus actions (e.g. seminars, workshops, visiting speakers, films, etc.).

In the medium- to long-term, I suggest such a group could cement existing ties and create new ones with a view to actually coordinating such actions.

Non-governmental organisations

Group for members interested in the role of NGOs and civil society in development.

This group is for members interested in the role of NGOs and civil society in development or interested in learning about this field. We aim, in this group, to share knowledge and data; collaboration on research projects and engage in participatory peer-review of one anothers work. Feel free to join even if you have no experience in this area.
