Faculty focus: Geography

The BSc Climate, Society, Sustainability enables advanced, degree-level learning in the integrated subject of Climate, Society and Sustainability. This programme draws on concepts and practices from the discipline of Geography, but there is a strong emphasis on the contemporary themes of climate and society, and in particular how they interrelate to yield sustainability outcomes. The programme has broad engagement with UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) across the programme curriculum, bridging the science and humanities domains (i.e. science, physical geography) and human society (i.e. social science, human geography).

Notwithstanding the strong educational and moral reasons for this programme – safeguarding Earth’s resources while ensuring a fair society – significant economic potential and job opportunities exist and continue to emerge in this area.

For full-time students, the curriculum is structured into eight 30 credit semesters, typically comprised of five x six credit modules per semester.

Year three of the programme consists of two semesters of the off-campus programme (typically in an employment or professional setting) and is worth 30 credits per semester. The off-campus programme is essential to developing student capacity for working in a professional setting.
