The Social Research Association (Ireland) is delighted to be hosting this Creative Research Methods training session with Dr Helen Kara on 25 October 2017 in Dublin.

Training Session: Creative Research Methods

Time & date: 9.15am-4.45pm, Wednesday 25 Oct 2017

Location: Carmelite Community Centre , 56 Aungier Street, Dublin 2

Cost: €100 for SRA members; €200 for non-members ( with 2018 SRA membership included for non-members )

A light lunch is included

This course will outline a variety of creative research methods and show course participants how to use them appropriately at each stage of the research process. It will introduce participants to a range of creative methodologies. 

Among the methods covered include:

-         Arts-basedmethods

-         Research usingtechnology

-         Mixedmethods

-         Transformative researchframeworks

 

By the end of the course it is expected that participants will:

-         Have a good level of knowledge of creative researchmethods

-         Understand how to use creative methods alongside more traditionalmethods

-         Understand when to use creative methods inresearch

-         Know how creative methods can add value to fundingbids

 

This course is relevant for researchers from the third sector, public services (e.g. health, criminal justice, social care, education, local or national government), and those who work in independent research organisations or academia.

 

It is an intermediate level course and attendees will need a good working knowledge of traditional research methods.

Trainer: Dr Helen Kara

This training will be provided by creative research methods UK based expert, Dr Helen Kara.

This is Helen’s first visit to Ireland to provide this training and as such provides a unique opportunity for the research community in Ireland to tap into her skills and experience.

 

Helen’s most recent book on Creative Research Methods in the Social Sciences: A Practical Guide was published by Policy Press, in 2015. She is currently working on her next book on research ethics.

 

Helen writes and teaches on research methods and is a Visiting Fellow at the UK's National Centre for Research Methods.  She has been an independent researcher since 1999.
