About

The world has been convulsed by the impacts of COVID 19. International travel has ground to a near halt, the global economy has stalled and many countries around the world are in government enforced “lockdowns”. In the Global North the purpose of these lockdowns was to slow the spread of the disease and prevent health care systems from being over-whelmed. Across much of the Global South these measures have also been put in place, but with often more severe livelihood consequences given high levels of dependence on the informal sector for survival, and the general absence of widespread social security and assistance measures. Thus the “secondary effects” of the crisis are much more in evidence in the Global South, at least in the short-term. This webinar will reflect on the impacts of COVID 19 in the Global South and how best to address the challenges it presents.
