The Global Goals can only be met if we work together” is the opening statement of the Goal 17 of the Global Goals for Sustainable Development ‘Partnerships for the Goals. Across the board there is increasing recognition that partnerships and cooperation are essential to tackle the so-called wicked challenges and realise the type of systemic changes needed for more sustainable and equitable global futures.
Better enabling cross sectoral partnerships, linking research, policy and practice for societal benefit is fast becoming central to the future higher research and education policy and landscape in Ireland and Europe. Correspondingly nationally and internationally, research funding bodies are increasingly supporting and requiring research that works in partnership with society.
For those working and researching in international development, partnerships and collaborative approaches in local and international contexts is often at the heart of what they do, yet sectoral silos in the development and sharing of knowledge between Irish NGOs and Researchers remain. This session aims to explore the diverse ways that research, policy and practice partnerships can be and are being successfully delivered, asks what more can be done and invites NGOs and researchers to network to build knowledge partnerships and collaborations. Panel Discussion 1: The Funding and Policy Landscape
- Irish Research Council: Dr. Grainne Walsh, Assistant Director, focusing on partnerships and impact, national delegate for Horizon Europe Cluster 2 'Culture, Creativity and Inclusive Society'
- Science Foundation Ireland: Dr. Maysoun Mustafa, Scientific Programme Manager, Challenge Research Team at the very forefront of programmes which have partnership and collaboration at their core.
- Irish Universities Association (IUA): Dr. Jane Carrigan, National Contact Point for Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) leads on the promotion of the programme to sectors outside of academia, such as NGOs.
- Campus Engage: Kate Morris, Head of Campus Engage, based in IUA which works to embed, scale and promote societal engagement and positive social impact as a core function of Iirish Higher Education and Research.
